If you asked me to articulate my personal philosophy on health and wellness, I think the best way I could sum it up would be as "the constant pursuit of getting in touch with your physical self."

Mom always taught me that health, wellness and vibrance are all about little things. That is, doing little things with increasing intensity and scope over time. Eventually this has a profound impact on your health, your level of energy and ultimately your personality. The good thing is, if you approach wellness in little steps, it's easy to weave postive healthy behaviour into your life.

Diets don't need to be complex. Concentrate on natural & nutritious foods, but have an accomodation for indulgence in moderation. You'll eat healthier foods in healthier portions while still enjoying the experiential aspect of eating.

Hydration is a vital part of my diet. Drinking water helps both with appetite and maintaining a "clean" system. For example, starting the day with 1/2L of water sends signals to your brain making you less hungry. Ironically, if you're dehydrated, your brain thinks you're hungry (not thirsty). So drink lots. It also helps flush through and detoxify your system.

Just as important as diet is exercise. And for me, physical activity shouldn't feel like work, it should be fun ... almost a "spiritual" escape for your body. I find stretching very effective, and I start each day with a number of stretches and I repeat the process several times throughout the day. Cardio is very helpful too (I probably should do more), but the important thing is to stay active and enjoy it. The energy you get will help you enjoy life to its fullest.

In short, keep it simple. And don't wait to get started. Doing little things like drinking more water or touching your toes from time-to-time can make a big difference. So what are you waiting for ... reach down!
